It’s almost Valentine’s day and that means many of you are looking for fun and creative ways to spend a date night with your significant other, or your friends. Well, recently I had the pleasure of joining in on a spirit tasting and make your own cocktail night with Black Button Distilling here in Buffalo, NY.
While Black Button’s main distillery is located in Rochester, NY, they have a really cute tasting room in downtown Buffalo that is perfect for a date night out. It’s cozy, intimate and had a rustic, industrial charm that sets a great mood. Plus, they have tons of delicious cocktails to choose from. On my night out, I chose to try a ‘Clementine Jubilee’ featuring their ‘Citrus Forward’ gin, ginger syrup, clementine soda, and sparkling riesling. My husband opted for a classic Negroni with their classic Barrel Reserve Gin. Both were delicious and got us very excited for the tasting ahead!
During our tasting, we tried four of the spirits, Citrus forward gin, Straight Bourbon, Apple Pie Moonshine, and their bespoke Bourbon Cream. I was a big fan of the gin, the citrus notes were so prevalent and really added an extra layer of flavor to my favorite spirit. While I don’t usually drink bourbon, I wanted the full experience, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised; especially by the Bourbon Cream, it was smooth and had a distinct caramel flavor that was delightful. But, the winner of the night for both me and my husband was the Apple Pie Moonshine, holy flavor, Batman, it was DELICIOUS!
We also got to learn all about the distillery, including their efforts to be sustainable and harvest as many ingredients locally as possible. In fact, 90% of their ingredients are sourced from New York State. 90%! The founder of Black Button is only 30 years old and is dedicated to building up their reputation as a New York State Farm Distillery, while also supporting local family-owned farms. The distillery is so committed to harvesting locally that they recently opened their own farm – Black Button Farm & Forestry. I can only imagine the kind of legacy they are building for future generations and stewards of this company! Read more about their story here.
After the tasting, we even got to try our hand at making a specialty cocktail called ‘Cereal Party’ using the Bourbon Cream we tasted earlier. This cocktail was a dream. Let me just ask you these questions… do you like cappuccinos? Yes, okay… do you like marshmallow cereal? YES… Okay, make this cocktail, you will not regret it! It’s so simple and you can even find a step-by-step guide on my Instagram highlights – just tap on the Cocktails highlight and check out the recipe below!

After that experience, I know that I will be back, and definitely plan on visiting their main location and distillery in Rochester, NY. I’ve also decided that I need to get my hands on their Lilac Gin (I mean.. doesn’t it sound dreamy?).
